The most common causes are a weak or, conversely, an overmodulated signal, a damaged coaxial cable or a poorly aligned aerial. An aerial amplifier or signal meter can help assess the situation.
Can I buy a separate remote control for my old TV?
Yes. We stock both original and universal replacement remotes for common brands, including older models for which the manufacturer has discontinued support.
How do I connect an old device to a new TV?
Via an AV converter, which converts the analogue signal to HDMI. New TVs usually no longer have analogue inputs such as SCART, so they won’t display the signal without a converter.
Why can’t I hear the dialogue on my TV?
The TV’s slim design cannot accommodate full-sized speakers, and dialogue gets lost in the music. The simplest solution is a soundbar; many of them also have a mode to enhance speech.
How do I choose headphones for running?
The key factors are a secure fit and sweat resistance. Sports-style headphones with ear hooks or earbuds stay in place better than large over-ear headphones, which also tend to get hot when you’re moving.
Is it worth repairing an older television?
For common faults such as a faulty power supply or backlight, the answer is usually yes – parts cost a fraction of the price of a new television. It isn’t worth replacing the panel, as this costs almost as much as a new set.
