Product description

The charger is designed to charge the external battery in cars with controlled, so-called smart charging, which is used in modern cars to achieve the lowest possible emissions. It contains an inverter that is capable of increasing and decreasing the input voltage to create the optimum voltage for charging the external battery.
It connects to the primary starter battery and exploits the potential of the vehicle's alternator even when charging of the starter battery is restricted to reduce emissions.
Solar panels can also be connected to the charger to charge the external battery when it is not being charged by the alternator.
An automatic mains charger (AC-DC) can also be connected to the terminals of the external battery without disconnecting the DC-DC charger.

Charging Priority:
1) 12V voltage at the "ACC" input (ignition on, preferably when the engine is running):
In this mode, the external battery is only charged from the DC Input, i.e. from the vehicle's on-board mains. Charging from the photovoltaic panels is blocked. The DC input voltage must be >12V
2) The "ACC" input is not 12V (ignition off or engine not running mode)
In this mode, the external battery is charged preferentially from the PV panels. If the panels are out of service (Uoutput <16V), then the charge is taken from the DC Input if a voltage >13VDC is available. Thus there is no risk of discharging the primary battery.

Remark:
It is also possible to connect a standard mains charger, which is part of the caravan or trailer on-board network, to the secondary battery terminals. Charging of both connected chargers is then governed by the terminal voltage of the secondary battery being charged, so there is no need to worry about damage to the secondary battery.
