Product description

The MPPT controller uses an internal converter to adjust the V-A characteristics of the current source (solar panel) so that it is optimal for charging the battery. It can therefore utilize energy from solar panels much better than a PWM controller, which regulates charging only by pulse limiting the direct connection between the solar panel and the battery, where the pulse width is proportional to the state of the battery being charged. In other words, the MPPT controller can generate the ideal voltage and current for charging the battery from a higher voltage and lower current source. For example, from 30V and 5A, it generates approx. 15V and 10A. The efficiency of the V-A conversion characteristic is usually over 95%, so losses are minimal and the controllers can generally be adapted to different types of batteries for optimal charging.
